2.HAZARDOUS INGREDIENTS

Contact with acids liberates toxic gas.

3.HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION

It is corrosive. causes severe burns.

4.FIRST AID MEASURES

SWALLOWED: extremely corrosive to mouth and throat. causes severe and rapid burning of the mouth, throat and digestive tract accompanied by severe pain, vomiting and collapse. gastric acidity would convert this product to hydrogen sulphide gas which is potentially lethal. Burns to the stomach lining may result in severe injury and death. if conscious immediately wash out mouth and give water to drink. do not induce vomiting. Seek medical attention immediately.

EYE: extremely corrosive to the eyes. Brief contact causes severe damage and prolonged contact causes permanent eye injury. Immediately irrigate with copious quantities of water for at least 15 minutes. eyelids to be held open. Seek medical attention immediately.

SKIN: Remove contaminated clothing. Wash affected area with large amount of water. If irritation develops seek immediate medical assistance.

INHALED: Remove victim from exposure. Remove contaminated clothing and loosen remaining clothing. Allow patient to assume most comfortable position and keep warm. Keep at rest until fully recovered. If breathing labouredly ensure airways are clear and administer oxygen. If breathing has stopped apply artificial respiration at once. Seek immediate medical assistance.

5.FIRE AND EXPLOSION DATA

Not considered to be a fire hazard. Explosive by friction and rapid heating. Contact with acids (or carbon dioxide in the air) will produce highly toxic and flammable hydrogen sulphide. Liberates sulphur dioxide on burning.

EXTINGUISHING MEDIA: Use extinguishing media appropriate for surrounding fire. Water fog, water spray, foam, carbon dioxide or dry chemical powder. Fire fighters to wear self contained breathing apparatus and full protective clothing when fighting fire.

6.ACCIDENTAL    RELEASE MEASURES

Use local exhaust ventilation to keep exposure below recommended exposure standard. Use in well ventilated areas.

7.HANDLING AND STORAGE

Classified as a Class 8 dangerous Good by the Australian Code for the Transport of Dangerous Goods by Road and Rail. Store in a cool, dry well-ventilated place away from oxidizing agents, alkalis, acids, foodstuffs and other incompatible materials. Refer to state regulations for storage and transport requirements.

SPILLS: Shut off all possible sources of ignition. Wear proper protective equipment to prevent skin and eye contact and inhalation of dust. Sweep up but avoid generating dust. With a clean shovel, transfer spilled material into clean-labeled containers for disposal. Prevent from entering drains, sewers, streams or other bodies of water. If contamination of sewers or waterways has occurred, advise the local emergency services.

8.EXPOSURE CONTROLS AND PERSONAL PROTECTION

No value assigned for this material by the National Occupational Health and Safety Commission (Worksafe Australia). For Hydrogen Sulphide: TWA: 10ppm (14mg/m3) STEL: 15 ppm (21mg/m3) ENGINEERING CONTROLS Provide local and/or general exhaust ventilation to keep exposure level below the exposure standard. Avoid generating and inhaling dusts. PERSONAL PROTECTION

Avoid skin and eye contact and inhalation of dust. Wear overalls, safety glasses or goggles and, chemical resistant gloves and safety boots. Respiratory protection is required if airborne concentration is high or unknown. Use an approved dust mask if there is a risk of inhaling dust. Always wash hands before smoking, eating, drinking or using the toilet. FLAMMABILITY Not considered to be a fire hazard.

10.STABILITY AND REACTIVITY

STABILITY: it is stable on use condition. Avoided from moisture.

11.TOXICOLOGICAL PROPERTIES:

Harmful if swallowed.

ACUTE EFFECTS SWALLOWED: Ingestion can result in corrosion of gastrointestinal tract, vomiting, headaches, cyanosis, respiratory depression, fall of blood pressure, loss of consciousness and death. EYE: A severe eye irritant. Corrosive to eyes. Contamination of eyes can result in corneal burns.

SKIN: Corrosive to skin. May cause skin burns. Can remove or destroy hair.

INHALED: Inhalation of dust may result in respiratory irritation. Acidified solutions will liberate highly toxic hydrogen sulphide - exposure at low concentrations can result in headaches, dizziness, and nausea, loss of appetite, conjunctivitis and chronic cough. At 0.1ppm, hydrogen sulphide causes irritation and sensory loss. Immediate loss of consciousness, depressed respiration and death in 30 - 60 minutes results above 350ppm.

 CHRONIC EFFECTS No information available.
